BATFE on the Chopping Block

It was no surprise to me that the mainstream media has utterly ignored the shady on-going’s of a program called “Project Gunrunner” by the BATFE (Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives – formerly called the ATF). The program was supposed to be designed to thwart illegal gun sales in southern states that would later be transferred to Mexican drug gangs. However, it is now doused in scandal as allegations from current and former agents arise that the BATFE may have knowingly allowed (and possibly assisted in) hundreds of guns to be illegally sold and transported into Mexico in a plot to justify their ballooning budget needs. Update from California: AB 962 Shot Down In Superior Court

The poorly-conceived “ammo bill” AB962 has been struck down as being “unconstitutionally vague” by Fresno Superior Court Justice Jeffrey Hamilton. The ruling comes just days before the law would have taken effect… a law that, among other things, would ban internet sales of handgun ammo and require local ammo buyers to be fingerprinted and reported to the CA Department of Justice. Aside from being a blatent violation of an individual right to due process, this law would have been very expensive. AB962 would have cost the financially burdened State millions of dollars annually in wasted revenue to track and record lawful ammo sales, while providing no empirical benefits for crime prevention.

SHTF: Fantasy vs Reality

As we approach yet another apocalyptic “prophecy” in 2012, some folks are already starting to prepare. As weapons and munitions caches in basements across the country begin bulging at the seams, I can’t help but question the validity of this paranoia, and more so, of the methods devised to survive it. In this article, we will take a closer look at several possible SHTF (**** Hits the Fan) scenarios and see exactly what role, if any, firearms will play as they unfold…

Thanks to Our Veterans!

Today, we honor the brave men and women who have risked everything in service of these United States of America. Many have returned to post-combat life with deep physical and emotional scars. Many are still out there in the trenches, dancing in the deadly gauntlet of war. And some have not, and will not return at all. We thank their families for the endless sacrifices and support they have offered to our soldiers. We thank their predecessors, who have passed down the priceless knowledge and wisdom needed to survive the perils of combat. We thank our nation’s founders for giving us a country that is worth fighting and dying for. And most of all, we thank the warriors themselves for their service and sacrifice.

Thank you all for everything you have done. We salute you!

About Violence…

I, myself am not what most people would consider to be a “violent person”. I have never committed a violent crime. I have never resorted to using any of my weapons in order to intimidate or control another person. I haven’t even been involved in so much as a fist fight since high school (not counting consensual training). Nonetheless, I am always mentally prepared to use justifiable violence, if needed, to protect what is mine. Sadly, not everyone shares the same sentiment, and many believe that even justified acts of violence in self-defense are morally wrong. A recent interaction with a very anti-gun individual got me thinking about the excessive fear of violence, the social stigma surrounding the word “violence”, and how it affects our society. Are you mentally prepared to resort to violence in order to defend yourself and your family?

Anti-gun organizations exposed…

We all know that money talks and pretty much everything else walks. As gun owners, there are few more effective methods at asserting our rights against would-be attacks than to deny funding to anti-gun individuals and organizations. Gun owners make up a massive portion of the US consumer market, and if we join together to boycott groups who publicly act against the Bill of Rights, we can put a major kink in their fiscal chain. Here are some links for detailed lists of anti-gun companies, organizations, and individuals. You might be surprised at just how many of the organizations you currently feed are actively fighting to destroy your rights.

In Review: Garmin eTrex GPS

Copyright 2010 Brasstard.com

For hunters, fishermen and outdoorsmen, navigation to and from our recreation site has become much easier in recent years. As GPS units become cheaper, smaller and more accurate, we have run out of reasons to procrastinate the adoption of this technology into our outfit. The eTrex unit in this review came in a package deal with a Burris Fulfield II rifle scope. Though this exact model is not in production anymore, it is virtually identical to the newer eTrex H, which has a more sensitive receiver with the same basic features. Garmin’s eTrex line is a no-nonsense trail tracker unit designed for ease of use, long battery life and enough navigation features to get you home safely.
